Graduates unashamed to honor their race.

[Editor's note: White-Americans have longed for awards just for them, yet they are denied every opportunity of promoting and honoring their heritage. Each ethnic minority has an awards assembly, a television network, or a magazine that encourages positive racial identification. It is time that White-Americans reclaim their identity, stand up to the anti-White establishment, and throw off the yoke of non-White tyranny and prejudice. No one is going to give us what we want. We must demand the recognition of our race now and procrastinate no longer. -DM]

Tears were shed in Grand Junction High School’s library Tuesday night as administrators honored and said goodbye to some of their favorite students during the Latino Education Achievement and Graduation awards night.

Awards were distributed to more than 50 students of all grades for attendance and academic honors, all accompanied with a personal message and heartfelt encouragement from Shirley Otero and Herb Castelo, directors of the Latino Education Achievement and Graduation program.

“When you hear people say Latino students aren’t doing well, you throw these figures back at them,” Otero said, quoting the thousands of hours of community service performed and the high attendance rate of many of the kids associated with the LEAG program.

There are 300 Latino students at Grand Junction High School; 80 percent are connected with the LEAG program, Otero said. Of the 47 seniors, 42 are graduating from high school.

“Each and every one of you had to overcome some really great obstacles,” Otero said between tears. “Don’t you ever let anyone put you down, because you are worth everything you have. Nothing was handed to you.”
