The massive flow of illegal aliens across the southern border of the United States has now gotten so bad that even Establishment politicians are being forced to sit up and take notice. A recent news article reports “Gov. Janet Napolitano on Wednesday ordered more National Guardsmen posted at the Mexican border to help stop illegal immigrants and curb related crimes. National Guard troops have worked at the border since 1988, but Napolitano signed an order authorizing commanders to station an unspecified number of additional soldiers there to help federal agents. Once the funding is approved, the troops will monitor crossing points, assist with cargo inspection and operate surveillance cameras, according to the order.”
It is not known how this will affect the Guard and the Guardsmen, since so many have already been called up and shipped overseas to the blazing hellhole of Iraq. Also gone to Iraq are large numbers of National Guard helicopters, vehicles, weapons and ammunition, and other gear. There has already been a marked shortage of manpower, equipment, and supplies in the National Guard to deal with domestic emergencies, as evidenced in the Hurricane Katrina disaster last September.
“They are not there to militarize the border,” the governor said. “We are not at war with Mexico.” No, we’re just being invaded. At the moment only a paltry 170 National Guardsmen are already posted along the Arizona border, where they assist with communications, fence construction and anti-drug raids.
Napolitano, a Democrat, had to be forced to take this long-overdue action by the Republican-led Legislature, which introduced a bill requiring her to do so and provided $10 million for the project. The bill won final approval Wednesday in the House and was headed to the governor, but she promised to veto the measure, saying it infringes on her constitutional powers as commander in chief of the Arizona National Guard. Apparently she is trying
to head off a more forceful crackdown by substituting her own call-up plan.
Americans are getting increasingly outraged by the illegal alien problem. At least one pundit has seriously suggested that George Bush be impeached over this. Congressman David Dreyer in California was nearly voted out of office going from over 80 percent in the polls to a razor thin 51 percent because the John and Ken show in Los Angeles mercilessly attacked him for his weak stand. Immigration is a huge issue for ordinary Americans and it’s about time our politicians start representing these concerns or be replaced by new politicians, who will secure our southern border.
