Is God Angry with George Bush?

Hurricane Rita

Within just two weeks of Hurricane Katrina, another category five hurricane has hit the southern US –this time slamming Bush’s home state of Texas. A category five storm is sometimes called a “hundred year” storm. Could the appearance of two of these storms in less than a month be a sign that a Higher Power is angry about something?

Hurricane Katrina seemed to be tailor-made to make Bush look bad. The federal government (not the local mayor or governor) is responsible for flood control in America, which ultimately means George Bush. The President plays a key role in deciding if the Army Corps of Engineers gets the money it needs to do flood control work. Hurricane Katrina was just powerful enough to topple three canal levees that were left unreinforced because Bush diverted the money for his Iraq War. A plan was devised in 1995 to improve the levees around New Orleans. Over 400 million had been spent on levee repairs as part of SELA, and 250 million more was needed to complete the job. The Times Picayune published nine articles complaining about the cuts in funding and the great danger to New Orleans. FEMA considered a flood of New Orleans the third most devastating event that could strike America. Bush’s failure to fund flood control combined with the hurricane, caused the levee failure that has devastated New Orleans.

The chaos that followed in New Orleans also made Bush look extremely bad since he sent the best 35 percent of the Louisiana National Guard to Iraq –robbing Louisiana of its ability to handle an emergency. Bush also appointed a complete idiot, Mike Brown, to head FEMA –another embarrassing fact exposed by the hurricane. The deeply evil chief of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff proved himself a complete failure at responding to a disaster in which people actually needed help.

The timing of these category five hurricanes also makes one wonder if there might be some Divine retribution taking place. During the month of August, many Americans were completely disgusted and outraged with the cowardly way George Bush avoided Cindy Sheehan, a poor American mom, who lost a son in Bush’s war. This was the last straw for many Americans. Is it possible that God Himself was outraged by that particularly emotional event? The powerful George Bush was relaxing at his ranch taking a vacation surrounded by his security guards while a poor bereaved mom stood in a ditch holding a pathetic sign. Well, there’s a level of power and authority far, far greater than George Bush.

Hurricane Katrina hit just as Cindy Sheehan ended her vigil outside Bush’s Crawford ranch. Bush had an entire month to behave like a human being and a real Christian and meet with Cindy. Instead, Bush ignored her and neocon talk show hosts began a hate-campaign against this poor mom. The smear campaign against Cindy Sheehan was one of the most despicable and cowardly political acts in American history. Bush’s top advisor, the extremely corrupt Karl Rove has made a career out of smearing people and no doubt played a key role in this disgraceful episode. One wonders what God Himself thinks of all this.
