Republican Senator John McCain, aka Mr. Potato Head, has been the subject of an extremely favorable article in the Israeli newspaper Ha’aretz, which is Israel’s equivalent of the New York Times and which usually parrots the views of Israel’s political elite. The article more or less gives McCain Israel’s official nod, which means the Jews may have given up hope on Hillary getting the Democratic nomination.

The Ha’aretz article opens up: “McCain is not a typical Republican, but in case he runs against Obama, that may help him draw Jewish voters. A little while after the outbreak of the Second Lebanon War, a group of Israelis visited Senator John McCain in his office, armed with maps. Among them was the IDF military attache, Major General Dan Harel, and ambassador Danny Ayalon. The maps were laid out, a briefing was made, and McCain did not hesitate much at the end to declare the just cause behind the Israeli offensive.”

Why are foreign military officers briefing a United States Senator on a war of aggression against one of their neighbors? Perhaps this war of aggression had United States approval and backing.

More from Ha’aretz: “Here is a subject with which McCain identifies a great deal more with Israel than some of the members of the current U.S. administration - his concern for the Israeli prisoners. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has given some of her interlocutors cause to understand that she believes this to be an obsession which affects Israel’s judgment. She may even be right about this - but McCain, a former POW, identifies with this obsession. Whenever Israel needs someone to pick up the telephone on the subject of the prisoners, McCain is ready to help -if he can.”

So when he’s President, every time some Jew gets caught by the Palestinians someone in Israel is going to “pick up the telephone” to the President of the United States and get a blank check to drop cluster bombs, invade Lebanon again, ad nauseam.

Ha’aretz also notes “Israeli captives on the one hand - prisoners in Israeli jails on the other. McCain believes that Israel is the perfect example of how terror suspects should be interrogated, without torture.”

They have got to be kidding! Israel is one of the most notorious torturing governments in the world. Ask Amnesty International if Israeli interrogation is “perfect.” Either McCain is one of the biggest pro-Israel liars on the face of the planet or he’s a lunatic who can’t face reality. (Like the 20 million illegal alien problem.)

The Israeli press just goes on and on and on in pure adulation of Mr. Potato Head, oh, he’s just the greatest thing since sliced bread, he has a “Judeophile” brother, so forth and so on. Again, what’s interesting here is that Israel now seems to accept that Barack Hussein Obama is going to be the Democratic candidate, and one can understand why they would be a little leery of endorsing a candidate who was educated in a Muslim madrassa in Indonesia as a child.
