Pushing the White Powder to School Kids

Sugar

Drug dealers are supposed to be created by their terrible deprived environment and by wicked racism, right? Well, it would appear that California’s deranged Political Correctness gone wild is currently creating a new set of drug pushers, really young ones in middle schools and even elementary schools. Entrepeneurial youngsters are starting to cash in on peddling a forbidden white powder to their classmates: sugar.

Yahoo News reports: “With candy sales banned on school campuses, sugar pushers are the latest trend at local schools. Backpacks are filled with Snickers and Twinkies for all sweet tooths willing to pay the price…’It [the school sugar ban] has created a little underground economy, with businessmen selling everything from a pack of skittles to an energy drink,’ said Jim Nason, principal at Hook Junior High School in Victorville. This has become a lucrative business, Nason said. ‘Those kids [sugar pushers] are walking around campus with upwards of $40 in their pockets and disrupting class to make a sale.’”

No doubt the Twinkie cartels and Hershey’s kingpins will start portioning out the corners in the school corridors and rival crews will be blasting one another with paint ball guns on the playground soon. Or who knows? Maybe real guns. Our society has gotten just about that crazy.

Yahoo goes on: “Schools have been individually banning junk-food sales for years, and enforcement was increased in 2005 when Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger passed legislation to combat childhood obesity, according to the office of the governor. Since then, schools have slowly adjusted by offering more healthy alternatives, such as baked chips and granola bars. But Nason said that he sees just as much candy and soda as ever, because students still bring it from home — for lunch, and to turn a profit. Teachers are instructed to confiscate candy when kids have it in class, Nason said, and the punishment for making sales can be detention.”

I know this sounds like a typically silly tempest in a teapot, but do you see the pattern here? Politically Correct Nanny-state laws allegedly passed “for our children” by the liberals are beginning to be enforced with coercion, even if it’s only the coercion of detention after school…so far. It is the function of school systems to concern themselves with what goes into a child’s mind, not what goes into his body, but the public schools (in addition to failing completely in their primary task of education) are becoming tools of indoctrination and enforcement of left-liberal social engineering.

Sugar products are banned. Granola and fruit are not only available, but the kids WILL eat those or be punished. Granted, it’s not a good idea for children to be gorging on Mars bars and gummy worms all day, but here we see the Politically Correct salami slicer busy slicing away one more thin slice of personal responsibility and choice from these children’s lives. They will grow up more or less accepting the right of the State to tell them what they can eat. And of course what they can think. Now multiply this one little example of schoolyard Political Correctness by how many hundreds or thousands of similar episodes every day, all across America.
