U.S. politicians ignore requests from citizens.

The 9/11 terrorist attack caused many European-Americans –some for the first time– to focus their attention on America’s lenient and unrestrictive immigration policies. A number of grassroots anti-immigration organizations were created in response to the attacks, and U.S. citizens repeatedly contacted elected officials to express their growing concern about this specific threat to national security. To their dismay, their protests and grievances were ignored.
A new report released by the Pew Hispanic Center (PHC) indicates that the level of illegal immigration has actually increased since the deadly attacks — elevating citizens’ fears.
According to the private research group located in Washington, D.C., Pew Hispanic Center reports a 23% increase in illegal immigration bringing the total to 10.3 million illegals’ within U.S. national borders. On average, approximately 500,000 border-crossers are added to the already 2-3 million total that enter the United States illegally each year.
“The numbers are astounding,” said a spokesman for Representative Solomon Ortiz. “Until we match our budgetary priorities with our national security priorities, this is going to be the case.”
Patriotic European-Americans disagree stating that although they understand budgetary matters are important, the real issue is the disintegration of America’s European heritage — a heritage betrayed by politicians who fear losing the votes of ethnic minorities.
Some anti-immigration organizations defer to labor interests as the main reason for the increase commenting that American businesses are lobbying U.S. politicians to not curb the flood of illegal aliens — as cheap labor benefits short-term thinking CEO’s and investment groups.
T.J. Bonner, president of the union of Border Patrol Agents, addressed the political rhetoric that has emanated from President George W. Bush and other pro-immigration politicians. “There’s been a greater amount of lip service, but there hasn’t been a greater amount of attention to border security,” he said.
The union president also noted the astounding ratio of illegal immigrants to border patrol agents – 181:1. Currently, there are fewer than 11,000 agents to patrol more than 6,000 miles of the nation’s perimeter around the clock, Bonner noted.
Illegal immigration, however, is not isolated to the Southwest portion of the United States. North Carolina is now recognized as having one of the largest growing immigrant populations, which has left neighboring states worried about immigrant spill-over.
Recent studies have shown that over 57% of the U.S. immigrant population are Mexican nationals’, with the second largest block at 24% having Latin American origins.
Frustrated U.S. citizens, disappointed at the sheer ambivalence of U.S. officials regarding immigration policy, are taking action to prevent the flow of illegal immigration over the U.S.-Mexican border.
The Minuteman Project, a grassroots effort to bring Americans to the defense of their homeland, is requesting volunteers to assemble at the Arizona-Mexico border in April. In a statement from their website, the Project illustrates that the motivation behind their courageous endeavor is to bring, “…national awareness to the decades-long careless disregard of effective U.S. immigration law enforcement. It is a reminder to Americans that our nation was founded as a nation governed by the “rule of law”, not by the whims of mobs of illegal aliens who endlessly stream across U.S. borders.”
Dates for the volunteer effort are set for April 10 – 30, 2005. Interested citizens may join the effort by visiting the Minuteman Project website.
