US Lieutenant-General John Sattler has declared his forces had ‘broken the back of the insurgency’ in Falluja, but his statements were overshadowed by a large number of attacks elsewhere in Iraq.
US and Iraqi troops killed some 1200 fighters and took over 1000 prisoners in Falluja fighting, Sattler said, but a US marine and an Iraqi soldier were killed before a tank “silenced” fighters holed up in the shattered city.(More…)
