Iran is reaching the point of no return in learning how to build a nuclear bomb, a senior Israeli official said Wednesday after Prime Minister Ariel Sharon raised the issue in talks with U.S. leaders.
“There has to be immediate action taken against Iran,” the official said, referring to international sanctions. “We have to take this to the U.N. Security Council. They are the only ones with the tools to deal with this.”
Sharon spoke of “Iran’s nuclear threat” in talks in Washington on Tuesday with Vice President Dick Cheney, the official said. The Israeli leader also raised the issue at a meeting with President Bush at his ranch in Crawford, Texas Monday.
“There is a time limit because Iran will soon reach a technological point of no return,” the official added. “We are not talking about when Iran actually produces nuclear weapons, but when it has the technological ability to do so.”
